Microsoft: The End is Near For Windows 7

For many of us, changes in technology come faster than we can keep up with. (Hey, that’s why TechAdvisors is here. We’ll keep up with the changes on your behalf!) However, in the tech world many of the large companies who make software do a great job of providing support and updates for that software for an extended period of time. This not only keeps your software from becoming obsolete 2.2 seconds after you bought it, but it also keeps it safe from viruses and security threats.

Case en pointe: Microsoft Windows 7, the platform on which, according to theVerge.com, nearly 37% of PCs still run on nearly ten years after its release. Throughout the years Microsoft has been faithful with the updates and support for Windows 7, meaning that Windows 10, though much newer, is only beating out its younger sister by about three percentage points in the platform game.

However, that’s about to change in a big way. Microsoft recently announced that Windows 7 is going the way of the dinosaur, saying, “After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. Now is the time to upgrade to Windows 10.”

What does this mean for consumers? It truly is time to upgrade. “End of support,” Microsoft’s website says, means that “If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it may become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Your PC will continue to start and run, but Microsoft will no longer provide the following support for your business.”

As we’ve told you before, being vulnerable to security risks in your business network is simply not permissible (or worth the risk)! If you run Windows 7 on your business PCs, you are by no means alone, but you are about to be extremely vulnerable, and hackers are counting on it.

Give TechAdvisors a call soon and let us upgrade you to Windows 10 to keep your PCs—and your business—running smoothly and securely. We truly care about our customers, and we’re ready to help you take this next step to secure your business’ longevity.
