It’s the End of Windows 7 as We Know It
November 20, 2019
Preparing your business for the new fiscal year could mean lots of tasks to address -- reordering invoicing forms or approving the latest changes to your company’s benefits package might be part of the routine. But if your company is still using WIndows 7, you’ll need to add another item to your to-do list: Update your software.
Windows 7 will reach its End of Life on January 14, 2020. This means Microsoft will no longer push out fixes for bugs or update security functionality, which could jeopardize the security of your company’s data.
Does this mean you will wake up the morning of January 15 and find your operating system has winked out of existence? No. You can still use Windows 7 and receive support from Microsoft, but it will come at a premium price point, plus you could still be vulnerable to virus attacks.
The most effective course of action includes upgrading your operating system to Windows 10, which you can download to your current machines or (if you’ve got the budget for it) switch to new computers, which will come equipped with the latest supported software.
If you’re among the roughly 40% of consumers and small businesses still using Windows 7 (according to Kaspersky research), you should definitely consider upgrading your software. TechAdvisors can assist; we can provide your organization with backup protection, network support, even simple consultation on new software options.
